Theaters that have been closed for nearly six months due to the corona virus epidemic in China are now opening.
On Monday, several theaters from Shanghai to Changdu City reopened.
China is the second largest cinema market in the world and has suffered a lot due to the Covid-19 epidemic.
The Chinese administration had said last week that a decision will be taken soon to open theaters in areas where the risk of infection is less.
Since March, the rate of new cases of Covid-19 in China has steadily fallen and now most of the areas of China have been declared 'low-risk'.
Despite this, some cities have decided to keep the cinemas closed at present as the Chinese government has left the decision on the local administration of the provinces whether they want to open theaters or not.
Cinemas have not yet been opened in Beijing city. The reason is that at the end of June some new cases were reported in Beijing, due to which the local administration is very cautious.
Wanda Film, the largest cinematographic company in China, has told news agency Reuters that it has opened 43 cinemas out of its 600 theaters currently. 10 of these theaters are in Shanghai.
In the year 2019, China earned 64 billion Chinese yuan (about 684 billion rupees) from the theatrical ticket sales.
The National Film Administration of China has estimated that China will lose about 30 billion Chinese yuan in revenue from the sale of movie tickets in comparison to 2019. That is, the income from the box office will remain half.
