Has the Covid-19 epidemic officially started in Guwahati?

Assam Health Minister Himmat Biswa Sarma said in a press conference on Sunday that the epidemic had been formally launched in Guwahati.

In fact, in Guwahati, so far, there have been 2741 corona infected patients, whose travel history or source has not been known.

To tackle the Corona virus crisis, the state government of Assam has put an entire lockdown for 14 days in Kamrup metropolitan district in the capital Guwahati from 28 June.

According to the Health Minister, the community spread of corona virus has started in Guwahati.

He said, "Guwahati has formally entered the epidemic 10 days ago, and the situation is going to get more serious here."

In Guwahati, there were 782 cases of corona positive on Saturday while 125 positive cases have been registered till 4 pm on Sunday.

Meanwhile, to control the situation in Guwahati, the Health Department has extended the corona test.

So far 81979 tests have been conducted in Kamrup metropolitan district including Guwahati. Among the northeastern states of India, Assam has reported the highest number of corona virus infections.

As of July 5, the number of corona patients has reached 11001.

According to the latest information from the Health Department, 6743 patients have been cured so far, while 14 people have died due to corona virus in the state.

Assam: Tea gardens open in many districts from today

Amid the ongoing lockdown across India, some tea gardens have been opened since April 11 in several districts of the state in view of the damage done to the tea industry of Assam.

Roshni Korati, District Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat district, in an order has confirmed the opening of the tea industry in Jorhat from Saturday.

Referring to Clause 500 of an order of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, the District Deputy Commissioner held a meeting with the tea industry and other stakeholders on Friday after which the decision to open the tea gardens has been decided.

However, all tea plantation owners must ensure that a maximum of 50 per cent of the laborers and workers work in the plantation. Also, no one other than emergency services and laborers will be allowed to visit the plantation complex.

In addition, plantation management must ensure that laborers and workers follow one meter of social distancing and must inevitably wear masks and hand gloves.

The district administration has also asked the tea plantation management to provide handwash and other sanitation materials along with clean water to the workers.

Apart from Jorhat, tea gardens of Dibrugarh, the home district of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, have also been allowed to open on the same conditions.

The state's tea industries were shut down from March 24 due to the corona virus. Recently, the Tea Board of India had said in a statement that the tea industry of Assam may have to bear about 15 per cent revenue loss due to the lockdown.

In Assam, there have been a total of 29 cases of corona virus so far, while one person has died.

Arunachal Pradesh: 11 killed including MLA in attack

In the terrorist attack in Arunachal Pradesh's Tirap district in Arunachal Pradesh, eleven people, including National Peoples Party (NPP) MLA Tirong Abo, have died.

Tirang Abo was the MLA of the party of Meghalaya's chief minister conrad Sangma. He was 56 years old.

It is being told that in the attack, the son of the legislator, Tirang Abo, also died. While two people are being told injured.

Arunachal police has confirmed this incident. According to the release issued by the police, Tirang Abo was going to Arunachal from Assam with security arrangements including his family.

In the meanwhile, some gun assaulted assailants in the Khonsa-Deomali Road ambushed their convoy.

This district of Arunachal Pradesh looks from Assam, Nagaland and Myanmar on three sides. In this area, there is considerable activity of both the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) and the NSCN- K both organizations.

It is worth mentioning that when Prime Minister Modi went to Nagaland in year 2015, he had made a cease-fire agreement with NSCN-IM. There is still a dialogue with this organization for peace process.

In Arunachal Pradesh, BJP Vice-President Dominique Tadar has told the BBC that this attack is an issue of investigation and which organization is behind it. This thing can not be said right now.

India's Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh condemned the attack and tweeted. He wrote, "The killing of MLA Tirang Abo, his family and others in Arunachal Pradesh is going to give a surprise. This is a disturbing move to disturb the peace and stability of the North East. People involved in this heinous crime will not be spared.

Chief Minister of Meghalaya and NPP chief Conrad Sangma expressed tension over the attack and tweeted that the Home Minister and the Prime Minister should take strong action against those who attacked.

Abo was contesting assembly elections this time from NPP. Earlier he was elected MLA from Congress. Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju has also condemned the attack and expressed confidence in the strong action against the attackers.

Nagaland Chief Minister Nefu Rio has also condemned the attack.

Assam Police has also condemned the attack. Assam Police has written on its Twitter handle that tribute to soldiers of other security forces, including Tirang Abo, who lost their lives in the attack in Arunachal Pradesh.
