Hugging Pakistan Army Chief was a passionate moment: Navjot Sidhu

Punjab minister and Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu said on Tuesday that he was a passionate moment when he was caught in a controversy by embracing Pakistan Army Chief during the swearing-in ceremony of Pakistan's new Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Sidhu clarified that his visit was not inspired by any politics. Significantly, before the oath taking ceremony of Imran, he was seen hugging Pakistani army chief General Kamar Javed Bajwa during that event.

Sidhu said, "Pakistan Army Chief said that they are trying to open Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, which was a passionate moment."

Earlier, on Sunday, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said that he is not in favor of Sidhu's move. He also made it clear that Sidhu's decision to join Imran Khan's swearing-in ceremony has nothing to do with his government. Simultaneously, he said that Sidhu, who came to politics from cricket, has gone to Pakistan on his own ability.

After the statement of the Chief Minister of Punjab on Sidhu's visit to Pakistan, he said, "Many people of Congress including Captain Sahib have spoken on this. This is democracy and everyone has the right to take their opinion."

On the other hand, BJP has termed Siddhu's visit to Pakistan, especially hugging the Army Chief, as shameful. Earlier, Sidhu had defended himself on Sunday after coming to Pakistan and said what he should do when somebody talked about opening the path of historical Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib.
