In Kerala, 22 additional people died due to floods, and the number of those killed since August 9 has increased to more than 200. Meanwhile, the worry of officials has increased due to heavy rain estimates. Red alert is going on in 11 districts of Kerala. According to the forecast released by the Indian Meteorological Department on Saturday afternoon, there is a possibility of torrential rains in different parts of Kerala.
Apart from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Kasargod, 11 districts of Kerala are on the red alert and there is a possibility of more rainfall. The death toll from 22 people in Anarkulam, Thrissur, Idukki, Pathanamthitta and Chengannur districts are reported on Saturday. Most of the districts affected by the rain include areas like Aluva, Chalakudi, Alappuzha, Chengannur and Pathanamthitta where rescue operations are being run fast and the rescue parties have saved many people.
The requests are being made by the relatives and friends of the people stranded in the areas affected by the media institutions. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan told India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a review meeting in Kochi that 357 people have died since May 29. Over 3.53 lakh affected people have been sent to more than two thousand relief camps. Modi announced a financial assistance of Rs 500 crore for the flood affected state. Earlier, the Center had announced Rs.100 crore on August 12.
Vijayan told the media in Kochi that the situation was very serious and bad. Vijayan said that the number of dead can increase, but the situation we are doing is under control.
However, Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala accused the government of failing to effectively deliver relief and rescue work. Kerala Food Minister P Thilothaman told the media that the one thing I want to say is that the number is very big and the time is needed to provide food packets and drinking water to the people. About 15 small boats of the Navy can come here. But the problem is after the evening, when rescue operations can not be run. Helicopters also need to be taken out people as soon as possible.
Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala told the media that the efforts of the state government have failed. Chennithala said that I have had a phone call flood and thousands of people are still trapped. The Chief Minister dismissed my suggestion of disgust, when I asked him to give rescue and relief work to the army. I do not want to be responsible for anybody, but it has been proved that the state government has failed.
