US President Joe Biden has issued a statement on the killing of Nasrallah, calling it "a measure of justice for his many victims, including thousands of Americans, Israelis, and Lebanese civilians".

Biden said the US "fully supports Israel’s right to defend itself against Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis, and any other Iranian-supported terrorist groups".

Biden added that his government was enhancing "the defense posture of U.S. military forces in the Middle East region to deter aggression and reduce the risk of a broader regional war".

Mikati was speaking at an emergency cabinet meeting that he convened upon returning from the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Mikati did not mention Nasrallah in his address, but his office later published a decision to hold three days of national mourning for Nasrallah.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned “yet another political assassination” by Israel, referring to Nasrallah’s killing. “This forceful action is fraught with even greater dramatic consequences for Lebanon and the entire Middle East,” the ministry said in a statement. “The Israeli side could not fail to recognise this danger, but took the step of killing Lebanese citizens, which would almost inevitably provoke a new outburst of violence. Thus, it bears full responsibility for the subsequent escalation.” The ministry called on Israel to immediately stop hostilities in Lebanon.

Officials have said that boats, helicopters and big vehicles are being used to rescue people trapped in flood waters. Work is also going on to rescue about 50 employees and patients trapped on the roof of a Tennessee hospital.

After hitting the coast on Thursday night, 26 September 2024, it is the most powerful hurricane to hit the coast of Florida so far, which has moved north towards Georgia and Carolina.

Insurers and financial institutions say that billions of dollars have been lost due to the storm.

Allegations of sexual abuse in many shelter homes in Malaysia, police rescued 402 minors

Police in Malaysia rescued 402 minors from shelter homes on Wednesday, 11 September 2024.

It is alleged that minor children and adolescents have been sexually abused in these shelter homes. The age of the victims is between one and 17 years.

The police raided 20 such welfare homes in the states of Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.

171 suspects have been arrested in this case, including religious gurus and caretakers.

Talking to reporters, Police Inspector General Razaruddin Hussain said that it is alleged that the victims have been tortured in different ways.

They have been sexually abused. Allegedly, these shelter homes are linked to an Islamic organization.

For now, the victims will be kept at the Kuala Lumpur Police Centre and will undergo a health check-up.
