Can corona virus infection spread via air?

The World Health Organization finally acknowledged on Tuesday that there was evidence of corona virus infection spreading from the air.

Earlier, a group of scientists wrote an open letter to the WHO, urging it to improve its existing guidelines.

"We are talking about the possibility of the corona virus spreading through the air," said Maria Wa Kerkhov, technical lead doctor at the WHO-pandemic of the Covid-19 epidemic.

In this regard, Benedetta Allengranji of the World Health Organization said that there is evidence of corona virus spreading through the air, but this cannot be said for sure.

He said, "The possibility of spreading the virus through air in public places, especially in crowded, low-wind and closed areas, cannot be ruled out. However these evidences need to be gathered and understood. We will continue this work.

Earlier, the World Health Organization has been saying that the SARS-Covid-2 (Corona) virus is mainly spread through micro-drops from the nose and mouth of an infected person.

WHO has also been saying that it is possible to prevent corona virus infection in people with a distance of at least 3.3 feet. But now if the virus spreads through the air is fully proved, then the distance of 3.3 feet and the rules of physical distancing will have to be changed.

Maria wa Kerkhov said that in the coming days the WHO will issue a brief about this.

"To prevent the spread of the virus, a large scale prevention is needed. This includes not only physical distancing but also the use of masks and other rules.''

In an open letter published on Monday in the Journal of Clinical Infectious Diseases, 239 scientists from 32 countries gave evidence that it is a 'floating virus' that can stay in the air and infect people when inhaled.

In this open letter to the World Health Organization, scientists had requested that it should reconsider this aspect of the corona virus and issue new guidelines.
